Voter Literacy Drive

In every election, and indeed in every possible voter education programme, voters in remote areas among other special groups require particular attention and as a matter of course the Literacy Assured Initiative team was in Ile Apa Community, Ilorin East LG, yesterday, to execute our first project tagged Voter Literacy Drive. The team visited 30 households (over 200 eligible voters) in the community to sensitise and educate them on the significance of participation in an electoral process as 2023 general elections hit the top gear. Our team sought to dismantle preconceived notions among them that partaking in the voting process is a pointless endeavour. They also placed emphasis on voting procedure, discouraging the sale of PVCs and vote buying among others with Yoruba, English and Hausa languages as means of communication. It was an impactful project as Baba Mogaji and other elders received the team with encomium and also expressed great optimistic in their efforts towards attracting developments to the community. Our focus, as a team on this project, was to address the issue of voter apathy recurring from lack of proper voter education and literacy among eligible voters across marginalised communities in Kwara State.
